Last week (June 2), South African Airways (SAA) confirmed that its board had accepted the resignation of Vuyani Jarana, the group’s chief executive.
Today (June 7), the flag-carrier is holding a media briefing to give assurances to stakeholders about the airline and its future.
Despite the uncertainty, SAA has announced that it “remains confident that the business will be transformed to regain self-sustainability”.
Since he joined SAA in November 2017, Jarana has led the implementation of the airline’s long-term strategy to return the airline to financial and operational sustainability as well as to position it to deliver effectively on its mandate.
JB Magwaza, SAA’s chairman, said that Jarana had “contributed to returning confidence and credibility to the airline”.
Magwaza added that the carrier will “continue to implement actions to reduce SAA’s cost structure and make the airline more competitive domestically and globally”.
While Jarana is contractually committed to remaining in his post until the end of August in order to ensure an orderly transition of his responsibilities, the SAA board is to “immediately commence the process of searching for a new group CEO to take the strategy forward”, Magwaza declared.
